President Ruto has announced to the public another list of the new cabinet nominees, bringing the total to twenty. On July 11, the cabinet was dissolved, except for the positions of Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs, following a series of discontent and protests against a lack of accountability and transparency in the Kenya Kwanza administration’s leadership.
“I have decided to dismiss with immediate effect all cabinet secretaries and attorney general of the Cabinet of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs,” Ruto said.
Last week, the president announced the first batch of his cabinet nominees, pending vetting and approval by the national assembly. Out of the eleven faces, six of the dismissed cabinet secretaries were renominated by the president this afternoon.
Ruto had vowed to create a broad-based government that would represent the face of every Kenyan aspiration by the time he dissolved the previous cabinet, something that the anti-corruption demonstrators expected in weeks to come.
However, most Kenyans have been infuriated after eleven of the dismissed cabinet secretaries made a comeback with the newly named nominees, spurring more displeasure toward Ruto’s regime. While announcing the new faces today, President Ruto said that he has listened to Kenyans.
“I want to give the people of Kenya an assurance that the government listen to them. For the last month, I have led the government in engaging and listening to citizens from all walks of life as they express themselves in different forums. I have heard you, and I had you clearly,” Ruto said.
The opposition seems to have reaped from the government since he got elected into office. Out of the twenty-one nominees, the opposition got four slots in key important dockets.
John Mbadi (Nominated Mp), James Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja Mp), Hassan Ali Joho (former Mombasa County Governor), and Wycliffe Opanya (former Kakamega County Governor) have been nominated for the National Treasury, Energy and Petroleum, Mining, Cooperatives, and MSME Development positions, respectively.
Rebecca Miano (Tourism & Wildlife), Salim Mvurya (Investment Trade & Industry), Kipchumba Murkomen (Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, & Sports), Dr. Alfred Mutua (Labour and Social Protection), and Jutin Muturi (Public Service) have been redelegated duties in the new cabinet.
