Three months ago, Elon Musk launched the X TV beta version, bringing a new and unique experience to content creators. The X TV app is over-the-top (OTT), which leverages the power of internet connectivity to deliver end-to-end content to users around the world.
There are tens of popular or known OTT apps, but Elon Musk’s X-TV could become the next big thing in the industry—making content creation and accessibility quite seamless compared to other platforms that have been around for a while.
The X TV app is a product of X, the parent company formally known as Twitter, before Elon’s controversial takeover. X is more of a messaging-based social media platform and the most downloaded news app both on the App Store and Google Play in a couple of countries, including India.
X has built a free-speech legacy comparable to other social media platforms like Meta, making it attractive to hundreds of millions of monthly users across the world. Perhaps X TV could leverage the popularity of X to outperform large market shareholders like YouTube and Netflix.
Is the X TV app the next big rival to YouTube? YouTube has been in the digital industry for more than two decades, and it could be too early to predict that given that the former is not yet fully fledged and would need a cutting-edge feature and infrastructure to outsmart the likes of Netflix.
Youtubers who turned to X for content creation have reported a massive revenue boom since Elon Musk introduced the monetization features. X TV monetization, as earlier announced a few months ago, could trigger an influx of users into the platform, which leverages the power of freedom of speech.
The Difference Between X TV Suite and X TV App
XTV is two different entities: XTV Suite, which is a professional software package designed for TV broadcast automation and not owned by Elon Musk. X TV is a multimedia platform launched by Elon Musk’s social media platform X (fomerly Twitter) aimed at competing with established platforms like YouTube. The XTV Suite is particularly beneficial for TV stations, satellite channels, and corporate environments that need reliable automation solutions.
XTV App Features
Replay: allows users to replay shows from the last 72 hours, enhancing viewing flexibility.
Startover: Users can start broadcasts from the beginning if they join late, unlike YouTube, which primarily focuses on user-uploaded content that is available on-demand.
Free Cloud DVR: This feature allows users to record up to 100 hours of content without incurring additional charges, making it an attractive and alternative option compared to other streaming platforms that charge for storage.
Cross-Device Compatibility: X TV allows users to interchange devices without losing the actual video. You can start watching on a device like a smartphone and continue on the smart TV.
Integration with X Platform: The app is designed to work seamlessly within the X social media platform, enabling real-time interaction with content.
X TV is not only a threat to the existence of YouTube, but even traditional broadcasting could face the challenge as more people adopt social media as their news source. It now aims to feature exclusive content and live streaming capabilities, positioning itself as a direct rival to existing digital technology.
The X TV is currently available on several smart TV platforms, with plans for a broader support in the future. As of now, the app is accessible on: Amazon Fire TV, Google TV (formerly known as Android TV), LG TVs, and Samsung TVs, with plans underway to expand it to other TV brands.
A lot of people have been asking when the app will be available on Apple TV and Roku TV. Its not known, but the developer has been progressively working around the clock to ensure that no one is left out. Therefore, the X TV app shall be available almost on all brands, including Roku TV.
