President Ruto has donated a whopping Ksh. 2 million to the ill-fated Hillside Endarasha Academy, a seemingly act of passion to the elementary school, which lost tens of learners to dormitory fires.
A section of Kenyans also criticized his impassionate act, days after returning from the Sino-African summit in Beijing, China, and later on flew to Berlin for the signing of a labor export deal and bolstering the bilateral ties between the two countries.
Ruto, who addressed the Nyeri residents in a church hours after landing back from Germany, also vowed to facilitate the burial of the 21 pupils who lost their lives during the dormitory fires. He also tasked Kieni lawmaker Njoroge Wainaina to ensure that aid is delivered to the fire victims, CitizenTV reported.
“I will send you again there with Ksh. 2 million you buy items for those whose items were burned so that our children go back to school,” he said.
At least 19 learners perished on the spot, while 2 more succumbed to the high degree of burns while receiving treatment in the hospital. The government, through the ministry of interior, has already confirmed that 46 learners who disappeared during the incident have already been accounted for.
However, some parents have reportedly not seen their children despite the government’s reaffirmation that all pupils who disappeared have been accounted for.
