Kenya Railways Suspends Commuter Train Services, Retains SGR

  • Kenya Railways Temporarily Suspends Commuter Train Services, Introduces Additional Trips to Nanyuki.
  • Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and Safari Train Services plying Nanyuki and Kisumu are still operational.

Kenya Railways has announced the temporary suspension of commuter train services for two weeks. The commuter train plies several routes in Nairobi to the outskirts, extending to some parts of Kiambu County. The suspension will be in force from December 23, 2024, to January 5, 2025. 

“We wish to notify members of the public that commuter train services will temporarily be suspended from December 23, 2024, to January 5, 2025.”

However, Kenya Railways have retained the operations Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and Safari Train Services, plying Nanyuki and Kisumu, connecting Rift Valley and Western Kenya.

“Kindly note that this temporary suspension will not affect the SGR Link train and weekly Safari trains to Nanyuki and Kisumu, which will continue to operate as per schedule.”

“Madaraka Express Services via SGR will also continue to run as per normal schedule.”

Kenya Railways has also announced the introduction of additional trips aboard the Nanyuki Safari Train, effective December 20, 2024. The train will run daily, departing from Nairobi Central Railway Station at 9am to Nanyuki for four days beginning December 20th to 24th, 2024. 

“We are pleased to announce that effective 20th December, 2024, we have introduced additional trips aboard the Nanyuki Safaari Train.”

“The train will run daily to Nanyuki from 20th to 24th December, 2024, departing the Nairobi Central Station at 9am.”

“The train will run daily to Nairobi from 21st to 25th December, 2024, departing the Nanyuki Station station at 9am.”
