For the third time in four years, Kenya Airways, dubbed the ‘Pride of Africa,’ has won the World Travel Awards in Africa, according to the annual leading airline rating by the World Travel Awards.
In addition to being the leading airline on the continent in 2024, Kenya Airways was also awarded in three different categories, including Africa’s Leading Airline—Business Class 2024, Africa’s Leading Airline Brand 2024, and Africa’s Leading Inflight Magazine 2024: Msafiri.
Kenya Airways has now bagged the award three times since 2021, except in 2023, when Ethiopian Airlines won the title.
At least seven aviation corporations were nominated for the award in 2024, including EgyptAir, Ethiopian Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, RwandaAir, South African Airways, Tunisair, and Kenya Airways.
Since 2026, only Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways have won the title in the nine annual awards in a row. Kenya’s leading carrier has won the award five times since then, while the Horn of Africa’s leading airline, Ethiopian Airlines, has won four times.
Since 1994-2015, South Africa’s leading aviation company, South African Airways, has bagged the title unchallenged.
In addition to that, the East and Central busiest airport, the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), was awarded Africa’s Leading Airport 2024. Despite the award, JKIA is currently embroiled in a controversial Adani, which seeks full control until 2054. The deal has been rejected by Kenyans, and KAA at large workers is currently facing court determination.
Kenya Airways (KQ) serves 45 destinations worldwide, with 37 in Africa. According to the information on their website, KQ connects over 5 million passengers and over 70,000 tons of cargo through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The KQ CEO, Allan Kivaluka, while speaking during the event, expressed his satisfaction and gratitude, which he likened to the hard work and efforts they’ve invested to stand out.
“Winning this means so much to us, as it’s not only as a validation of our hard work and efforts but also severs as a motivation to continue striving for excellence. We soared beyond expectations, reaffirming our position as the Pride of Africa,” KQ CEO, Allan Kilavuka.
