Makeuni County Senator Dan Maanzo, has posited that an impeachment motion against the Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, will also attract one for the President, whom he said has breached the constitution multiple times than his deputy.

The legislator made these claims during Ayub Abdkadir’s Day Break program on CitizenTV. He emphasized a concurrent impeachment session, with the National Assembly handling and the Senate handling the other one at the same time. He said that the standoff began for a long time, rubbishing Gachagua’s wrongdoing.

“Anybody should be impeached, and if there is an impeachment motion of the Deputy President, then we will also have an impeachment motion of the President because they are one ticket and they are one person. There is nothing wrong the honorable Gachagua has done; this trouble started a long time ago,” he stated.

“If there is anyone who has breached the constitution many times, it is the president, not the deputy… it is the president who has breached the constitution so many times. So if there is going to be an impeachment motion, then we must tie the two together.”

“While you process one, we process the other, and we run the two impeachment motions concurrently. They have to be at the National Assembly and at the same time at the senate,” he added.

The lawmaker also stood his ground, terming the current stalemate between the president and his deputy, Gachagua, as a tool of frustration.

While appearing to be supporting Gachagua’s stance on addressing Mt. Kenya region issues, Maanzo reiterated that the purported impeachment against the deputy does not bear any ground. He continued by stating that the deputy hasn’t breached any constitution and therefore has the right to address the plight of his people.

“Therefore, whatever is being used as a tool to frustrate Rigathi, there must be very good ground. There is no constitution the Honorable Rigathi has breached; Charity is at home. He was a member of parliament in Nyeri.”

“You cannot say you are the deputy president; you are not going to address the issues of your people. You are supposed to go to Rift Valley or to Ukambi and other people’s issues there before you aress your own people’s issues,” he added.

The division between the President and his deputy seems to be obliterating at an alarming rate since the broad-based government was formed. Gachagua has maintained that he will not be intimidated amid the reports that the impeachment motion could be tabled in a matter of two weeks.
