  • A total of 1,313,913 candidates sat for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KAPSEA) exams in October 2024.
  • You can only access the results through four options: the CBA portal, the KNEC portal, SMS, or by visiting the child’s school.

The Ministry of Education just released the KAPSEA results on January 6th, 2025, for the Grade 6 pupils, but parents are wondering how to access the results. KAPSEA stands for Kenya Primary School Education Assessment.

It was introduced as a transitional level from the traditional 8-4-4 education system to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which emphasizes learner-centered education and continuous assessment. The CBC is a learner-centric education system, which appears to be the best in Africa, but the implementation has been quite intriguing.

Unlike the previous education system, which emphasized rote memorization and examination performance, the CBC (2-6-3-3), however, focuses on developing critical thinking and problem-solving, creativity and imagination, self-efficacy, digital literacy, communication, and collaboration.

The competency-based curriculum comprises of five structures: strictly 2-6-3-3 model consisting of;

  • 2 years of preschool
  • 6 years of primary education
  • 3 years of junior secondary education
  • 3 years of senior secondary education
  • 4 years of university education (if applicable)

A total of 1,313,913 candidates sat for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KAPSEA) exams in October 2024. These students are expected to begin their 3-year junior secondary education in 2025 as part of the implementation of the new education.

Unlike the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), which was more of a high-stakes examination, KAPSEA employs a continuous assessment model that includes various evaluations.

The KCPE results would be announced after weeks of examination, inovlving examination score and school ranking determining placement in secondary under the previous 8-4-4 system, which is in contrast with the KAPSEA that involves holistic assessment of Grade 6 competencies, determined by the final score derived from ongoing evaluations throughout primary education.
