  • The EAC tabled FY 2024/205 before the East African Legislative Assembly for the debate.
  • A whopping USD 112, 984, 442 has been allocated to key sector organs and institutions.
  • The EAC’s 61% FY 2024/2025 budget is from the internal revenues and contributions from the partner states, while 39% is from the development partners.

The East African Community (EAC), one of the developed regional blocs in the Sub-Saharan Africa, tabled its luminous budget for the FY 2024/2025 before the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Hon. Deng Alor Kuol, the Minister of East African Community Affairs of the Republic of Sudan and the Chair Council of the East African Community, implored the legislative members to approve the proposed budget as it seeks to cushion the bloc against climate change and transform the economic status of its people.

While acknowledging the catastrophic set of economic challenges the bloc has been facing, heavily from geopolitics and climate and the skyrocketing fuel and food import prices, Hon. Deng noted that the bloc economies are expected to soar faster than the global and Sub-Saharan economic growth estimates.

The East African Community is a conglomerate of eight-member states, with the Republic of Somalia being the latest to have been admitted to the bloc. The proposed Council of Ministers’s budget is aimed at key program sectors and improving the workflow of various institutions and organs within the bloc.

With more eyes on enhancing the production and social welfare of the member-states’ communities, the Social and Productive Sectors Program got USD 20.3 million lion’s share of the budget. The EAC Secretariat and the East African Legislative Assembly are the most funded organs and institutions, as seen on the F2024/2025 budget.
