In the financial year (FY2024/2025), the education sector bagged the most allocation, amounting to Kshs. 627.77 billion, followed by energy, infrastructure, & information and communication technology. Public Administration and International Relations got a whopping Kshs.301.78 billion.
Governance, Justice, Law & Order, National Security, and Health were both allocated Kshs.230.89, Kshs.219.30, and Kshs.118.86 billion, respectively. Other sectors, including Environmental Protection, Water & Natural Resources, Agriculture, Rural & Urban Development, Social Protection, Culture & Recreation, and General Economics & Commercial Affairs, were allocated Kshs. 101.20, Kshs. 73.93, Kshs. 68.94, and Kshs. 45.63 billion, respectively.
In the first three months of FY 2024/25, the exchequer issued Kshs. 348.63 billion to Ministerial Departments and Agencies (MDAs), equivalent to 21 percent of the revised net estimates, compared to Kshs. 299.74 billion FY 2023/24 within the respective period.
The National Treasury issued Kshs. 708.11 billion for the period in review, representing 19 percent of the revised net estimates, compared to Kshs. 684.70 billion (18%) issued in the similar period 2023/24.
Education spent more than a quarter of the net revised estimates for FY 2024/25 in the first three months, for an amount of Kshs. 160.16 billion, representing 26 percent. The Governance, Justice, Law & Order (GJLO) sector spent the most, 27% of the revised net estimates, equivalent to 61.71 billion.
The National Security’s expenditure in the 1st quarter of FY 2024/2025 was Kshs. 51.98 billion, representing 24 percent of the annual revised estimate of Kshs. 219.30 billion.
The General Economics & Commercial Affairs (GECA), whose net estimates issued by the National Treasury were Kshs. 10.68 billion, representing 23 percent. Similarly, Social Protection, Culture, and Recreation spent 22% of the budget, equivalent to Kshs. 14.92 billion of Kshs. 68.94 billion issued by the exchequer.
The Agriculture, Rural & Urban Development (ARUD) sector spent 20% (Kshs. 15.01 billion) of its budget, Kshs. 73.93 billion, in the first three months of the financial year 2024/2025.
In the same period, Public Administration & International Relations (PAIR) exhausted only 19% of the net revised estimates of Kshs. 301.78 billion. The health sector in a similar period also spent Kshs 21.08 billion, representing 18 percent of the revised estimates (Kshs 118.86 billion).
Both the Environmental Protection, Water & Natural Resources (EPWNR) and Energ, Infrastructure & Information Communication Technology (EIICT) sectors only exhausted 16% and 13% (56.95 billion and 16.69 billion) of their revised net estimates of Kshs. 444.29 billion and Kshs. 101.20 billion in FY 2024/25.
