  • The DCI’s Facebook and X accounts were hacked in the early evening.
  • The hacker posted cryptocurrency-related content, perhaps aimed at enticing unsuspecting users.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation has successfully gained control of their social media accounts, Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), moments after hackers’ takeover.

The cybercriminals started publishing content about cryptocurrencies and blockchain right away, tricking people on social media into clicking links that led them to malicious external websites.

The investigating unit confirmed getting hacked a while ago, losing access to their social media accounts before regaining them.

“For some moments this evening, we experienced a cyber-attack on the DCI digital platforms (X and Facebook), but have since regained full control.”

“During the short period, the cybercriminals who attempted to take over the accounts posted the information captured on the screenshot below.”

The following is another piece of content shared by the cybercriminals, with links pointing to phishy external sources.

“Main Programmer of $DCI is our close friend and prisoner in a past life. He very kind and he will share tokens for Likes and Retweets, Support him, please,” [link redacted] is one among the enticing posts the hacker posted.

The sleuth has since launched a manhunt against the cybercriminal perpetrators. The public has also been urged to treat the shared information as fake.

“The information is therefore FAKE and not from the DCI. A scrupulous interrogation into the criminal activity has been activated to bring to book the perpetrators.
