President Ruto has today launched the Climate WorX Initiative, aiming to steer the climate resilience service program. While addressing residents of the Korogocho slum area, Ruto reiterated that the government will be employing thousands of youth to clean the polluted Nairobi River.
Starting in October, the initiative is now targeting over 20,000 youths in Nairobi County, especially those living adjacent to the Nairobi River, with an objective to regenerate the Nairobi River.
The President, who was accompanied by Nairobi County Governor, Johnson Sakaja, Cabinet Minister for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, Aden Duale, and other senior state officials, urged the youths to take advantage of the opportunity to apply.
The Climate WorX Initiative, a national government’s climate action, seeks to engage approximately 200, 000 youths in environmental sustainability programs countrywide. The program will also spur the targeted 15 billion trees across the country by 2032.
Speaking during the launch, he said that the program kicks off with the aim of cleaning the Nairobi River first, absorbing 30,000 youths. He also added that the program will be extended to Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, and Eldoret beginning October 1st, 2024.
To be considered for this initiative, interested job seekers are urged to apply through the Climate Resilience Service Program (CRSP) portal, where you’ll be asked to enter your name, phone number, ID number, county, subcounty, and ward. Details and location will be used to place individuals who will be selected to take part in the program as per information provided on the website.
