- The National Insight presents African Countries with the Best Mobile Network Consistent Quality in 2024
- South Africa and Tunisia have the best mobile network consistency quality in 2024, according to the analysis of 27 African countries by the Open Signal.
Africa is home to the growing smartphone owners in the world, but internet stability remains a menace in more than three-thirds of the countries. A huge number of smartphone owners still spend more time connected to 3G and 2G networks, a deplorable technology that lacks speed for modern applications.
South Africa has the highest 5G network coverage on the continent. This is attributed to the growing and robust network infrastructure the country is investing in. The data from Open Signal shows that South Africa has the lowest number of users spending time on 3G networks and the highest on 4G networks. Ethiopia has the highest population spending time on 3G networks in Africa.
Open Sigal analyzes the network experience by users from 27 countries in Africa in 2024. The analysis shows that South Africa performs better in terms of consistent quality at a score of 58.6% compared to other countries. Around 60% of the analyzed countries score below 30% in Consistency Test, which shows how deplorable the network experience is, affecting a large percentage of users on the continent.
South Africa and Tunisia have the best performance and are the only countries scoring above 50% in the CQ test. Mali, Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, and Ethiopia are the only countries with the below 10% score out of the 27 countries analyzed. This highlights the consistent bad experience, affecting users from effectively accessing standard applications, which requires stable network connectivity.
A stable network is crucial for economic development, shaping technological advancement, and businesses across the world. With a couple of African countries still lagging behind in terms of mobile network stability, it is a cruel experience for tech deleopers, remote workers, and businesses dependent on online presence and running home gadgets.
The adoption of 5G networks across the continent remains the lowest in the world. Inadequate investment in infrastructure would be blamed on this, but it is also blamed on the government, which continues to ignore the consequences of poor regulatory support.
