Safaricom now aims to attract and retain thousands of its customers after it announced new updates on Internet Service Business. The telecom behemoth unveiled a 1Gbps (gigabytes per second) platinum package, the first of its kind in the continent’s ISP industry.
Customers will have to cough up to KES 20,000 monthly for the newly introduced Platinum Package, which targets medium and large enterprises for efficiency and stable performance.
In a move that seems counter the speedy adoption of the satellite internet service provider, Starlink, Safaricom has increased the speed of some of their old packages by more than 50%, a boost that could retain alternative seekers.
In addition to the enhanced speeds, Safaricom has also launched a Family Share plan, which will integrate mobile, data, SMS, and home internet into a single plan. To ensure uninterrupted operations, Safaricom has added a monthly data backup plan of 5GB to 15GB.
Current users will have their old packages upgraded automatically to the new speeds. The Bronze package has been increased from 10 Mbps to 15 Mbps, priced at KES 2,999 per month. The new package comes with 5GB of mobile backup data and a 400-minute voice monthly plan. The bronze package will support up to five devices connected concurrently.
Silver plan users with an old speed of 20 Mbps will be automatically upgraded to the enhanced speed of 30 Mbps at a cost of KES 4,100. This package will connect up to 15 devices or users concurrently. In addition, the plans include 15GB of mobile backup data and a 3-user monthly Closed User Group voice plan.
The Gold package has been increased by at least 100% from 40 Mbps to a new ultra-fast speed of 80 Mbps. Customers will have to pay KES 6,299 a month for this package. the tune of KES 6,299 per month.
The Diamond package users will now experience a 400% boost in speed from 100 Mbps to an ultra-speed of 500 Mbs at a cost of KES 12,499. This plan accommodates up to 50 devices/users with 15GB of mobile backup data.
Medium and large enterprises with dedicated plans of up to 1 Gbps will have access to additional features, including 24/7 downtime monitoring, network visibility, burstability, static IP support, embedded security, overfiber or 5G backup options, and a guaranteed 99.99% uptime.
Safaricom will also award a 30GB mobile data bundle, free email, and a website domain for the first year for new customers with shared business plans of 15Mbps, 50Mbps, and 100Mbps.
The announcement comes amid the increasing adoption of Starlink, a satellite-based internet service provider. This move could be a counter-strategy by Safaricom to retain its customers from ditching its internet services to Starlink, which first-time users have applauded due to its uninterrupted speed and reliability.
