The shocking discovery of 50 bodies with gunshot wounds at Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, has left many to unravel the intricacies of insecurity and whether the anti-riot police were involved. Many Nairobi residents with disappeared relatives have been flocking to the city morgue to find their whereabouts, with others being locked out from accessing the premises to view bodies on a suspected foul play.
With many families still having relatives missing after the weeks of demonstrations by the youthful generations, Kenyans with nissing kins have therefore been advised to visit the city morgue for details about the unrecorded bodies.
Vocal Africa CEO Hussein Khalid urged the public to visit the city mortuary to identify missing relatives believed to have disappeared in the aftermath of June 25 and afterwards.
“We have tried to follow up and have established that since June 25, 2024, over 50 bodies have been brought here, most of them with guhsot wounds,” Hussein stated.
Additionally, while wrapping up his political tour at the coastal region, President Ruto reiterated that he had vowed to end forced police disappearances and urged Kenyans with missing relatives to immediately report. He, however, implored the police body to expedite investigation into the related disappearances and protests-related deaths.
“Under my administration, there will be no diasppearance o Kenyans again, there willl be no extrajudicial killings of Kenyans. I have said that with clarity,” Ruto stated.
While xpressing his government’s support for the families who lost their loved during the protests, he reiterated that every hand involved is under investigation, incuding the police officers wheo acted outside the confines of law.
“They should not have died, some of the insituatioons where the police are involved and other in situations where criminals were involved. All those situations are under investigations,” Ruto added.
The shocking discovery comes two weeks after decomposing bodies were found stacked in sacks at the Kware slum dumpsite. Preliminary investigations showed that the bodies were all female and severely dismembered. The recent incidences have taken place amid a troubling surge in mysterious disappearances and forced abductions, particularly after the recent Gen Z protests.
